The Dutch artist Daan Roosegaarde and his team have created the Smog Free bicycle. The bike inhales polluted air, cleans it, and releases clean air around the cyclist. The system was inspired by the Smog Free Tower in China. The innovative tower treats 30,000 cubic meters of air per hour, collecting more than 75% of pollutants.

This innovative bicycle is a 2 in 1 solution for our busy and polluted urban cities: it is an alternative to cars as well as an air cleaning solution.

The concept follows the global trend. More and more cities are aiming to become car free and propose bike sharing solutions. In China, the Mobike sharing program is a great success: more than a million sharable bikes are available in the Beijing region. Yet the riders need a smog protection which would be provided by this innovative bike.

“Beijing used to be an iconic bicycle city. We want to bring back the bicycle as a cultural icon of China and as the next step towards smog free cities.” – Daan Roosegaarde

The concept is currently in the first stage of conceptions. China has invested in a lot of eco-friendly programs during the last few years and I wouldn’t be surprise to see the idea brought to life very shortly.

Now the question is: when will there be an air cleaning solution integrated directly in cars?
